About > The RegistryThe ENUM registry performs the role of TLD manager for the Irish ENUM zone 3.5.3.e164.arpa. It provides continuous DNS announcement of delegations under the zone, manages the database of registered numbers, provides access and support for registrars to manage their delegation portfolio and liaises with the national and international communities on issues such as best practice and data protection. In addition it will be involved in the development of ENUM within Ireland, together with ComReg and the PAB. From 31 May 2007 IENUM will operate the registry for the commercial use of ENUM in Ireland. Under contract from the Irish telecommunications regulator "Commission for Communications Regulation", IENUM administers the 3.5.3.e164.arpa zone and provides registrars with the necessary infrastructure for ENUM domain management within the number area '+353'. ENUM is a global standard for linking telephone numbers with internet resources, thus allowing the simple addressing of these internet services via a phone number, an important component in the convergence of telephony and internet. |
